Give your home a worldly aesthetic with the right decor

There seems to be no limit to the amazing things you can do with your home décor for affordable prices at Midnight Velvet. However, you might not expect designing your kitchen to look like a Parisian café or decorating your living room feel like a Bohemian haven. In actuality, there are plenty of ways to make your home look worldly for a reasonable price.

“Choose exotic light fixtures.”

Embrace lighting

Many people disregard the importance of stylish lighting in their home décor. Rather than opting for the plain old light sources that were in your home when you moved in, choose more exotic light fixtures like timeless stained glass lighting for a European look, or a Moroccan-style pendant lamp. You can even use small lanterns if you want to give the living room an East Asian aesthetic. If you choose to go this route, using folding screens to separate areas of the room would be a great way to build upon the style.

Window treatments are key

Have you ever noticed that a stunning window display is one of the first things that catches your eye when you enter a room? A set of luxury curtains in an exotic pattern is a great way to add a little something extra to any room. Allow the curtains to be the most eye-catching thing in the room, or work the curtain design into the already-existing worldly aesthetic.

Don’t let rugs be an afterthought

Too often, people settle for plain, neutral rugs so as not to distract from the rest of the room’s décor. However, instead of settling, try a more contemporary rug that really pops. A fun animal print can channel a safari vibe in the living room, or you can choose a tribal pattern. Once you put an exciting rug down, you’ll wonder why you spent so many years with a neutral one!

Invest in trays

Elle Décor suggests corralling all of your knickknacks on interesting trays throughout your home. Not only will this give your worldly décor a more organized appearance, but you can use the trays as decorations themselves! Silver platters make great accents, and you can even take vintage serving trays out the kitchen to organize everything on your coffee table! There isn’t a room in the house that an interesting tray won’t work in.

Start small

If you’re not ready to take the plunge into giving your whole room a global design, you can start small by displaying animal figurines or exotic vases throughout your home. Not only is this method of décor affordable, but it’s also pleasing to the eye and intriguing. Everyone who comes over will be asking where you got that darling elephant or that rare looking vase in the hallway. Realize that your home décor is a work in progress.

Home shop on vacation

One of the best ways to give your home a worldly ambiance is to reflect your travels throughout the year in your décor. When you’re on vacation, pick up handmade items that look exotic and exciting. If you can fit that rug into your suitcase or a figurine into your carry-on bag, go for it! This way, when your loved ones come to visit and compliment your décor, you can tell them about the trip. This is a much more personal way to decorate your home, and you’ll love every piece you surround yourself with.
